Planning Your Day at Fall Creek Falls State Park

One-Spot Day

Fall Creek Falls one spot days work best at the overlook platform for the top down view or the Nature Center lawn for an open ceremony with easy parking. The base of the falls is dramatic but requires 300 feet of stair descent each way and is not workable for a full ceremony with seated guests.

Ceremony + Portraits Split

The park is compact, the main falls overlook, Cane Creek Cascades, and the Nature Center all sit within 10 minutes of each other on the same park road. A ceremony at the falls overlook and portraits at the cascades in the same afternoon is very realistic. The park also has an Inn, cabins, and a restaurant, so the full day can stay inside the park.

A Note on Light

The Fall Creek Falls overlook faces west, so late afternoon and sunset backlight the falls and the spray creates rainbows in low angle light. Morning at the base is cool and shaded with mist rising. Cane Creek Cascades sit in open sandstone and warm in afternoon light. Spring rains produce the strongest flow, fall foliage peaks mid to late October on the Cumberland Plateau.
