Peekaboo Canyon
Utah · BLM · Southwest Region
Peekaboo is one of the colorful slot canyons in Utah, walls swirling with bands of cream, pink, peach, and lavender where the Navajo sandstone has been wind carved into flowing curves. No commercial tours. You are genuinely alone in something that looks like the inside of a seashell at scale. Often combined with Spooky Canyon for a full day of unusual geology.

Larger groups or commercial operations need a BLM Special Recreation Permit. 4WD high clearance vehicle required for access (deep sand road). The canyon involves short chimney moves not suitable for all mobility levels.

Planning Your Day at Peekaboo Canyon
One-Spot Day
For couples who cannot or do not want to scramble, the Dry Fork Overlook anchors the whole day on safe slickrock rim. Vows at sunrise or sunset, then portraits across the open slickrock with Peekaboo and Spooky in the drainage below. One spot, one parking area, no flood exposure.
Ceremony + Portraits Split
Hold the ceremony at the Dry Fork Overlook on the rim so guests of any ability can witness, then drop with just the two of you and the photographer into the Dry Fork Narrows for portraits in the slot. The slot is a short walk below the overlook.
A Note on Light
Inside the slots, midday around 11am to 1pm is the magic window, when reflected light activates the peach, cream, and violet bands. Up on the rim, sunrise and the last 45 minutes before sunset wash the Kaiparowits in deep amber. Midday on the rim is flat and hot.
