Elope in West Virginia
Appalachian gorges, hardwood forests, and whitewater river corridors
New River Gorge became a national park in 2020, making it one of the newest in the country and currently one of the least-crowded for elopement purposes. The gorge is over 1,000 feet deep. The views from the rim trails are dramatic in a way that feels unexpected given how accessible the park is from the East Coast. The permit system is still maturing as a national park, which means more flexibility than older, more established parks. Fall color here runs deep into November due to the gorge's protected microclimate.
